You can use either the following chart or our Qua Number Calculator tool to calculate your Qua Number and find out your auspicious positions.
The Eight Mansions Formula is based on the lunar year of birth and gender of the practitioner. It can determine one person's auspicious and inauspicious directions and locations. In real fengshui practice, finding the Gua Number is too complicated to a beginner, thanks to the intellectual fengshui scholars, they condense an easy way for the amateur. This following formula is the shortcut to find out people's Gua Number.
1. Figuring Out Feng Shui Personal Qua number
A. For Male: Add the last two digits of your lunar year of birth. Keep adding the digit until it reduces to a single number. Then subtract this single number from 10. The result is your Gua number. For example, if you were born on February 01, 1964, your lunar year was 1963. Add 6 to 3 and come 9. Then 10 - 9 = 1. So your Gua number is 1.
B. For Female: Add the last two digits of your lunar year of birth. Keep adding the digit until it reduces to a single number. Then add 5 to this single. The result is your Gua number. For example, if you were born on February 01, 1964, your lunar year was 1963. Add 6 to3 and come 9. Then 5 + 9 = 14. It is two digits. Add again. 1 + 4 = 5. So your Gua number is 5.
C. If you were born on or after 2000. Thus, for boys, you should subtract from 9 instead from 10. For girls, you should add 6 instead of adding 5.
